This short and easy ascent to a hilltop in the Muirshiel Country Park rewards with excellent views.

Leave the car park through the most northerly exit, cross the road and head up into the woods along a well maintained path. The route is well waymarked and follows the red arrows.
Ignore the first path junction to the right and continue as the path leads into a stretch of dark Sitka Spruce, follow the path uphill to a T-junction and turn left, before soon turning right and resuming the walk uphill into the trees. Goldcrests inhabit this wood, feasting on cones in the plantation.
Eventually the path leads through a gap in a stone dyke and out into more open woodland, still on a very well made aggregate path. Keep a watch out for roe deer flitting through the undergrowth, before heading through a kissing gate and onto open moorland for a first view of Windy Hill in the distance.
As the path ends follow one of the grassy tracks to the summit cairn, either a steep direct ascent heading to the left, or a more gradual approach straight ahead. Either way, the summit cairn is soon reached, and the unobstructed panoramic views easily won. Return via the same route, this time with the rough hills of Misty Law and Hill of Stake ahead of you for a large section of the descent.
