This short walk around the sheltered area of Galmisdale starts from Eigg's ferry pier. It passes through the woods to the colonial lodge building before a more open section past the old Manse and down to the shore, returning past the old harbour.

At the pier is Am Laimhrig which houses the shop, cafe / restaurant, toilets and showers, and craft shop. From the pier take the road heading uphill, passing to the left of a standing stone and picnic table.
The stone was erected to commemorates the residents of Eigg buying their island in 1997 in partnership with the Highland Council and Scottish Wildlife Trust, following a long period of ownership by absentee landlords. Since then a number of initiatives have been undertaken to ensure a sustainable community can exist on Eigg and to provide accommodation and facilities for visitors.
Continue on the main track into the woods. Further on, at a junction, turn right through the gateposts of the Lodge driveway passing the community hall on your left.
The track now enters the exotic gardens of the Lodge, a neo-colonial building built by a previous owner of the Island as a shooting lodge. The Lodge is not generally open to the public (it offers eco-courses and B&B), so continue past it on the track, which soon heads round a bend to the right - keep on the main track that curves right here. Pass through a gate to reach open ground, and continue to a fork; bear right here, sloping downhill.
The track passes some huts and eventually emerges on Eigg's north-south road. Turn left to head north, winding gently uphill. Pass a turning on the left with an old post box, and continue past a wood until there's a large ladder stile on the right. Cross this and continue ahead towards the Manse building, reaching a stile over a fence just before the Manse.
Cross the stile and then bear right of the Manse garden wall, following a faint path that sound bends downhill to reach a stile over another fence - with a view down to Eilean Chathastail beyond the ferry pier. The path soon becomes a grassy track; follow this downhill, eventually keeping to the left side of a stone wall.
Eventually it reaches a gate - pass through and then bear half right across a grassy area to reach a burn flowing out into the bay. Cross this on stepping stones and then follow a path round the shore beyond. The track passes the original pier, which was only usable at high tide. Pass through a rocky gap and eventually meet a tarmac road. Turn left along this, passing Shore Cottage, to soon return to the main pier and shop at the start.
