Pressmennan Wood is a mixed woodland owned by the Woodland Trust. This short walk runs through the trees close to the shore of Pressmennan Lake, enlivened by the wood carvings of the homes of Glingbobs and Tooflits - a delight for families.

Take the minor road (signed) which climbs steeply from the western end of Stenton Village; the parking is then along a rough track (again signed) off to the left. The route described here also includes the loop at the far end of the lake though you could simply walk the shorter Glingbob and Tooflit Trail route - or include the climb up to the higher path on the way back. Either way, begin by heading back along the entrance track, then turning right into the woods by the yellow marker stone.
Turn right when the path meets a track, and then immediately right again onto a footpath. This soon reaches the banks of the lake - a narrow reservoir surrounded by fine trees. There are good views across the water, and the path eventually leads on past a carved wooden bollard.
Further on, after a slight rise and fall, look out for the homes of the Tooflits (which can fly) and then the Glingbobs (which live on the forest floor) - the doors and windows of two of their homes can be seen in dead trees on the left. Eventually the path climbs up from the lake and reaches a t-junction with a track by a wooden post with a hole carved in it.
For the shorter option you can turn right here, but our route instead turns left to make a detour to the foot of the reservoir. Continue along the track - ignoring a path which branches off right uphill - until a muddy path descends off to the left. Carefully descend this to reach the end of the reservoir. Cross the bridge and continue beside the railing until the grassy path turns off to the right. Follow this as it eventually swings right and joins the end of the track. Now simply follow the track back to the bollard with the carved hole, and keep straight on to return to the car park.
Eventually the track leads back through a gate and returns to the start.
