A shorter route is simply to climb Broad Cairn using the track from the Spittal of Glenmuick - used as the descent route in the descriptions above. Cairn Bannoch could also be included.
A more unusual approach would be from the head of Glen Clova in Angus. Head up to Bachnagairn, then up over Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch; a descent can be made via Crow Craigies.
