Almost everyone climbs Càrn Liath via the usual route from Aberarder, but the extensive broad ridge extending east from the summit could be explored by a start from Aberarder Lodge 5km or so to the east.

The fittest baggers will extend the Walkhighlands route by adding in Beinn a' Chaorainn and Beinn Teallach.
