Ruadh Stac Mòr

Hear pronunciation Press to hear pronunciation

Ruadh Stac Mòr, together with neighbouring A' Mhaighdean, is perhaps the remotest Munro in Britain. It is in the heart of the Fisherfield Forest and is a truly stunning viewpoint - steep mountains rise abruptly from the surrounding lochs and bogs whilst a huge sweep of the sea is over to the west.

Other routes and challenges

A spectacular alternative route is to head into the heart of this wild area from Poolewe. From Kernsary the route heads eventually to the causeway between Fionn Loch and Duch Loch. Continue on the stalkers' path above Carnmore before striking off for the west ridge of A' Mhaighdean, south of Fuar Loch Beag. This offers some scrambling en route to the summit. Head down to the bealach before heading up Ruadh Stac Mòr; for the return a stalkers path can be picked up from the bealach between the two Munros.
