Slioch is one of the most familiar mountains in the Highlands, with the view of the mountain across Loch Maree adorning countless calendars and brochures. It is also a fine viewpoint over the Fisherfield Forest to the north.

The ascent is almost invariably made by the route given via Coire na Sleaghaich; other directions tend to be barred by crags. Gleann Bianasdail can also be approached from Lochan Fada for anyone wild-camping out in the remote Letterewe Forest.
