Grantown-on-Spey, stopping point on the proposed route
The people behind the idea say that the walk would pass through many small towns and villages, with the opportunity to make the walking days very flexible. The route would contain all the elements of a really great walking experience, with beautiful coastal scenes, the River Spey and its distilleries and the wild open moorland and history of the Dava. Some of the route could be undertaken by mountain bike or by canoe or kayak, which would add extra elements and make it more attractive to a variety of enthusiasts. The fact that it would be a circular route would cut out any difficulties with transport that a linear route can pose, and would mean that walkers would be no more than 45 miles from the start at any given point.
Moray Council, the Dava Way Association, Cairngorm National Park, HIE Moray and VisitScotland agree that the concept of the Moray Way is worth pursuing. Anyone interested in finding out more can attend a public meeting on 19th November, 7.30pm in the Lounge Room of Elgin Town Hall.
