A woman from Ireland has died after falling over 200 metres on Cairn Gorm on Saturday 31 January. Theresa Conalty, aged 40, from Country Wicklow, slipped whilst walking with a group in Coire Cas. Whilst visibility was good, it was extremely windy on higher ground and the snow was very hard and icy which would make it difficult to stop even a small slip.
Strathclyde Police and the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team who were training in the area joined with members of the Cairngorm Mountain Ltd Ski Patrol, to assist with the rescue. Ms Conalty was taken down the mountain on the funicular and airlifted by helicoper to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she later died. It is believed Ms Conalty suffered severe head injuries in the fall. Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, the Police, and ambulance service were also involved in the operation which occured early on Saturday afternoon.
