Dave Macleod to reveal climbing secrets of Ben Nevis

Top international climber Dave MacLeod and the John Muir Trust will lead a guided walk into the corries of the North Face of Ben Nevis on Sunday 24 July as part of the countdown to the London 2012 Olympics. The chance to explore the climbing history of Britain’s highest mountain in the company of one of Britain’s leading climbers is part of a series of sporting and cultural events taking place across the UK to celebrate the ‘One Year to Go’ countdown to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

During the walk the exciting climbing secrets of the mountain will be revealed, from its first ascent over a century ago and the pioneering routes of the 1960s to Dave MacLeod’s extreme climb of Echo Wall in 2008, described at the time as, “a strong contender for the world’s hardest traditional rock climb”.

Rob Bushby, John Muir Award Manager said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to hear first-hand how the boundaries have been pushed and the exhilarating achievements on the Ben over the years. Dave MacLeod is one of the foremost climbers in the world and has not only an intimate knowledge of the North Face but a great appreciation of the beauty and aesthetics of Ben Nevis. We’re really pleased to be able to offer a guided walk with him to explore this iconic mountain.”

The event is free and open to anyone over the age of 14 (under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult) and places must be booked in advance. To confirm availability and book a place please email info@johnmuiraward.org.
