Windfarm protest set for 8th November

Wind turbineThe Save The Monadhliath campaign group are planning a protest outside the headquarters of Highland Council. The campaign was set up to specifically to oppose the planning application for the controversial Allt Duine windfarm on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park near Duncraig. The protest will be held on the 8th November – the day when the councillors on the planning committee meet to vote on the plans. This is the first stage in the process as the ultimate decision will be made by ministers.

A spokesman for the Save the Monadhliath campaign said “We are not against renewable energy. We simply feel that this proposed development is inappropriate for a wild land area of outstanding natural beauty like Allt Duine… To build a wind farm on the very edge of the National Park, in an area of unspoilt wild land, and in an area that the Council wishes to protect, would be devastating and a step too far.”

The demonstration will meet outside the Highland Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness on the 8th November at 09:00-10:30am. UPDATE 3 NOV: This demo has now been called off.
