This weekend's Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon will take place on Ben Cruachan and the surrounding countryside. The exact location is always kept a secret until two days before the event. This year's event will take place on the Glenstrae Estate just west of Tyndrum and will take in a couple of Munros.
Organiser, Andy Spenceley, promises at least two Munros and some light scrambling on the longer courses, combined with potentially very boggy areas of heather and bog myrtle, could be a midge paradise. A half way camp will be set up for competitors that will be a long way from any roads.
Andy Spenceley urged competitors to, “Keep your fingers crossed for good weather and the clouds keep off the tops, because due to the position and situation of these hills, the views from the high ridges and summits are worth a moments pause (and remember there’s a photo competition).”
The LAMM runs over 9 and 10 June and results will be posted on the LAMM website. If you fancy taking in the dramatic scenery of Ben Cruachan at a more relaxed pace check out the route on Walkhighlands.
