Call for walkers help on Ben Lui access

Ben Lui

Ben Lui

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) is working with Argyll and Bute Council and the British Transport Police in trying to resolve the long running problem of access to Ben Lui from Glen Lochy. The MCofS is asking hillwalkers to let them know if they have ever crossed the railway line from the Forestry Commission car park in Glen Lochy on the way to Ben Lui. It is hoped that if enough walkers provide evidence that the line is being crossed, Network Rail may consider putting in a crossing.

Walkers will not have to provide contact details so there is no danger of people incriminating themselves. In addition, the MCofS, which will collect and collate the data, is not subject to Freedom of Information requests and any personal data would also be protected under the Data Protection Act.

The form can be accessed here and needs to be completed and returned by 30 June. The MCofS is interested in both recent and past crossings of the line so please have a think about the times you have climbed Ben Lui and complete the form if your route included the railway line.

You should always carry a backup means of navigation and not rely on a single phone, app or map. Walking can be dangerous and is done entirely at your own risk. Information is provided free of charge; it is every walker's responsibility to check it and to navigate safely.
