Mountain safety charity Mountain Aid is asking walkers to climb a mountain on 26 May and raise funds.
Alex Slimon from Mountain Aid said, “This winter has seen an increased level of fatalities in the mountains, some of which could have been avoided had those involved taken suitable precautions. Mountain Aid is committed to the cause of safety on the hills and support for Mountain Rescue. However, as a charity, they need your help to achieve these objectives.
“We are delighted to tell you how this can be achieved as part of an enjoyable expedition to the hills. Most likely you will be planning to get away from it all during the Whitsun Bank Holiday. Arguably it is the most attractive time of the year for hill goers with pockets of residual snow often found in warm sunshine in the high tops. Mountain Aid are simply asking you to “Make your Mountain Matter” by dedicating the hill you have chosen to climb to the raising of some funds for this worthy charity.
“Whether it is a Munro in Scotland, a Wainwright in England, or simply your favourite local hill, why not sponsor your action with Mountain Aid in mind and tell us, and your friends about your experience. Sunday, 26th May is the preferred occasion, but if this is not viable for you we will accept the nearest date you can manage.”
You can either take part individually, as a group, walking or climbing club. Check out the Mountain Aid website or phone to 0844 870 9284 for more details and to sign up and “book” your hill.
Mountain Aid is a charity dedicated to promoting mountain safety, helping fund Mountain Rescue services and supporting rehabilitation initiatives for injured hill goers. Last year it organised a Mountain Safety Day in Stirling and will be offering another such information day in October 2014. Last winter Mountain Aid held a series of mountain safety talks and has, since 1999, donated over £5000 to mountain rescue teams.
