Stephen Pyke’s non-stop Munro record attempt should now have entered its 10th day. The last couple of days have seen epic numbers of Cairngorm Munros ticked off during which Spyke has had to deal with snow on the ground and periods of snowstorms which added to the difficulty of the run. If the attempt is currently going according to schedule then Spyke should be tackling Driesh, Mayar, Tom Buidhe, Tolmount, Carn an Tuirc, Cairn of Claise, Glas Maol, Creag Leacach today. You can see which peaks have been completed at this Walkhighlands map.
To break the record Spyke will have to cover over a marathon each day, while also climbing 10,000ft, in order to beat a time set by Glasgow postman Charlie Campbell, who completed his round in 48 days and 12 hours in 2000. He is aiming for Ben Hope in Sutherland to be the last peak on 3 June.
You can follow Spyke’s progress at his blog where there is also a link to his Munro map on Walkhighlands. As well as being an attempt on the Munro records, the run is also aiming to raise awareness and funds for conservation charity the John Muir Trust – check out the donation page here.
