Sustrans Scottish survey of walkers and cyclists

Sustrans is asking walkers to provide information to help plan the development of walking and cycling paths in Scotland. A large national survey is now open and all walkers and cyclists are being encouraged to take part.

The National Walking and Cycling Network (NWCN) is a network of walking and cycling paths and routes in Scotland. The network includes all of Scotland’s Great Trails, Scottish Canal towpaths and the National Cycle Network (NCN). The Sustrans survey aims to assess: The benefits that access to walking and cycling paths and routes bring to the people that use them and; how walking and cycling paths could be improved to increase their usage.

Responses from the survey will be used to inform future development of walking and cycling paths and routes in Scotland, to support funding bids to develop the NWCN and to influence government policy on walking and cycling in Scotland’s natural environment.

Sustrans says, “The more responses we get, the better information we have with which to do this and to ensure that we develop a National Walking and Cycling Network that is the best it can be. If you are resident in Scotland, travel regularly to Scotland or intend to visit Scotland in the future, we are interested in hearing from you.”

Survey responses can be entered into a prize draw to win Sustrans shop vouchers, with one £50 voucher and two £25 vouchers up for grabs. Take part in the survey here.

You should always carry a backup means of navigation and not rely on a single phone, app or map. Walking can be dangerous and is done entirely at your own risk. Information is provided free of charge; it is every walker's responsibility to check it and to navigate safely.
