Walkhighlands walk report of the month

Each month two outstanding walk reports submitted to Walkhighlands are awarded prizes. The competition is sponsored by online retailer Webtogs, who choose the winners and donate the prizes.

Commenting on the December walk reports, Gareth from Webtogs writes “Well the Festive season has finished and although feeling little flat, plans to head in to the hills have gathered pace and sparked a few excited grins here at Webtogs. Not sure about you good folk, but I personally find the hills in winter to be the most beautiful and exciting for walking. As a result I was really looking forward to this month’s round up of walks and do you know what? You didn’t disappoint me.

“Two walks though had to be chosen, and there were two that easily stood out – but not perhaps for theusual reasons.

“As runner up we have luckyguy68 with his account of his first Munro – and a winter coated one at that too. The Photos are great, but two things swung it for me. First the excitement of someone tackling their first good sized hill in winter was great to read, seeing someone else grow to love the hills doesn’t half generate a warm feeling. The second point you might disagree with me on as a factor in awarding it runner up status, but it’s the reaction of the community here. Support, encouragement and some great practical advice reminded me of what’s great about Walk Highlands. Everyone here helps people get out and enjoy their outdoor time more. Kudos to you all.

“There has to be a winner though and the walk report that had me cursing the fact that we are based in deepest darkest tractorland instead of North of the border was Snow White, Seven Dwarfs, 4 Munros & 1 Corbett by Dooterbang. It was one of the most liked reports for last month and it’s blindingly easy to see why. The reference to winning Webtogs Trip Report of the Decade & the fact he won one back in 2010 nearly put the Kybosh on it however (the Webtogs trip report of the decade BTW will be an all expenses paid trip to Summit nearby Win Green with a special bonus of being able to clear out our neighbour Farmer John’s silage facility.) The photos however simply won me over with what looked like the most amazing and picture perfect winter’s day. If that walk had been a meal, I would have dissolved my napkin in drool by now it looked so appetising. It made me want to be in the hills more than any other blog post, article or picture I have seen over the last couple of months. It looks like you had an amazing time in some stunning conditions, the photos on Beinn Udlamain in particular were stand out.

“Well done to both winners and a hearty pack on the back for all of the Walk reports for December, it really has been a total pleasure reading them. Until next month – have fun in the hills!”
