Worn Wear Tour offers to repair gear

Patagonia’s Worn Wear Tour is coming to Scotland and offering free repairs on outdoor clothing including Goretex as well as teaching people how to fix their own gear and in turn reduce their impact on the planet.

The Worn Wear initiative encourages customers to extend the lifetime of their garments. The Patagonia repair team onboard will offer free repairs on any brand of clothing, on a first come, first served basis. The tour will also educate people on how to keep snow and outdoor gear in good condition for multiple seasons and will teach skills such as patching, re-waterproofing shells and fixing zippers. The repair experts will be available at the locations listed below from 10am to 5:30pm and the Scottish dates run from 13 to 28 January.

Patagonia says that, “extending the life of our garments, through proper care and repair, is the single most important thing we can do to lower our impact on the planet and reduces the need to buy more over time — thereby avoiding the CO2 emissions, waste output, and water usage required to build it. By keeping our clothing in use just nine extra months, we can reduce related carbon, waste and water footprints by 20-30 percent each, according to the UK-based group WRAP – simply because we’re making and throwing away less.”

Stewart Sheppard, member of the Gore Fabrics Sustainability Team, adds: “We at Gore always strive to deliver outdoor products with the optimal combination of high technical performance and sustainability. Last summer we trained the Worn Wear crew, in our Gore production site, on how to professionally repair technical GORE-TEX® garments. With this move, we support the idea of long-lasting products, a concept that Gore has been pushing for more than 20 years.”
