Summary

The ascent of this rather soggy Corbett can be quickly accomplished from the pass between Glen Lyon and Loch Tay. The uninspiring terrain is rewarded with a fine summit view, both along Glen Lyon and of the Tarmachan ridge.

Stage 1

It is possible to park near the cairn on the watershed at 549m, but since this limited parking is also the usual start point for Meall Corranaich and Meall a' Choire Leith, it is perhaps better to instead park opposite the metal hut and ruin 1km further down the Glen Lyon side of the pass. In addition, Meall nan Eun is very boggy and covered in tussocks, making awkward terrain. Instead, follow the road east for 700m from the hut before cutting up left to reach a faint, wet path marked on 1:25k OS maps traversing the west side of Meall nan Eun.

Stage 2

The 'path' leads into Coire Buidhe; leave it after a few hundred metres to aim north directly up the slopes of Meall nam Maigheach. The ridge from Meall nan Eun is particularly tussocky going in its lower reaches, so it is better to keep to the left side of this where there has been more sheep grazing. Whatever line is taken, it is an uninspiring ascent, relieved only by the view looking back.

Stage 3

The small summit cairn has surprisingly good views. There are glimpses of the fine woodlands of Glen Lyon, whilst the Ben Lawers group are close at hand. The finest part of the view, however, is an excellent prospect of the Tarmachan Ridge.

Stage 4

The return is made by reversing the route of ascent. The challenge is to make a - probably fruitless - attempt to find drier going on the way down!
