He holds the Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor (MCI) award, as well as the International and Winter Mountain Leader awards. These are the highest professional UK qualifications for taking others hillwalking year-round, scrambling and rock-climbing. He is also a medical doctor, holding the Diploma in Mountain Medicine.
