Merrick

The Merrick is the highest hill in Southern Scotland. A popular ascent from Glen Trool, it presides high over a wild landscape, thankfully well away from the extensive forestry plantations.

Other routes and challenges

In addition to the two routes described, there are more challenging options. One is a traverse of the western ridge of the Galloway hills - the Awful Hand - from Benyellary, right through to Shalloch on Minnoch (or beyond).

Another option would be - after descending to Loch Enoch - taking in the Grahams of Mullwharchar and/or Craignaw.
