Summary

The Corran ferry links two different worlds - the busy A82 and Fort William area with the peaceful retreat of Ardgour. This short circular walk makes for an enjoyable stroll through wonderfully scenic surroundings - though the latter part is along the verge of a busy road.

Stage 1

From the Corran Ferry terminal outside the Inn at Ardgour, begin by walking northwest along the single-track A861 past the cottages of Corran. There are superb views up Loch Linnhe looking towards distant Caol (a suburb of Fort William) at the head of the loch. Continue until just past the church, then turn left up a track, passing a bungalow.

Stage 2

The track gives glimpses over Lochan na h-Eaglais (the lochan of the church) to the left. Ignore paths off to the sides, and pass the larger Lochan Eoin Mhic Alastair. When a tarred lane is reached, turn left along it, then turn left again at a minor road. This leads past the shop (with cafe) and school in Clovullin - a tiny village bypassed by the main road.

Stage 3

Eventually the main A861 is reached. This road is wide and fast; traffic is intermittently busy when the ferry calls in. Turn left to walk back to the start on the grassy verge beside the road, taking care with traffic. There are superb views to Beinn a'Bheithir, towering over the far side of the loch.
