Compared to the famed white sands of nearby Calgary Bay, Tràigh na Cille is little known or visited. Its black sands, however, are a stunningly beautiful place for a short wander.

The walk begins from the start of the track leading off the road just east of the bridge over the Allt na Cille - there is space for one or two cars to park carefully on the verge without blocking the track entrance or any passing places. Go through the gate and down the track.
The track leads down through beautiful deciduous woodland, before opening out into a grazed area nearer the sea. Keep right at a fork, then cross a footbridge beside a ford.
As the coast is approached there are great views across Loch Tuath to the islands of Ulva and Gometra.
The sandy beach is soon reached. The sands are volcanic, with fine grey and black sand, often forming beautiful patterns where the water flows over them. It's possible to explore the coastline a little further, but the return walk is back the same way.
