Arran Coastal Way now on Walkhighlands

The Arran Coastal Way has been greatly improved over the last year with new waymarking, path improvements and a new website. A monument to mark the start and finish of the walk in Brodick is planned for later this year. A detailed route description with free OS mapping is now available on Walkhighlands. Affric Kintail Way now on Walkhighlands

The newest Scottish long distance route is now on Walkhighlands. The Affric Kintail Way runs from Drumnadrochit in the east to Morvich in Kintail, just a stone’s throw from the sea on the west coast. The starting point at Drumnadrochit means it can easily be extended with a first day’s walk along the Great Glen Way from Inverness creating a satisfying coast to coast, cross-Scotland route. Coast to coast over the 4000′ summits – by packraft

Walkhighlands’ columnist David Lintern and his friend David Hine are planning to walk and paddle from coast to coast, visiting the nine tallest mountains in the UK on the way, in aid of outdoor learning. Walkhighlands Navigation courses

Following the success of the joint Walkhighlands/MCofS navigation courses over the last few years there will be a further 4 courses held in April and May 2015. These single day courses will be held in the Ochils on 18 and 19 April and the Campsies on 16 and 17 May. St Kilda wind reaches 144mph

The UK’s windiest place has today recorded a wind speed of 144 miles per hour, one of the highest ever recorded. St Kilda, which is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland, experiences gales on 75 days of the year, however, conditions today are even tougher than ‘normal’.
