Peter Cairns photographic evening

Acclaimed nature photographer, Peter Cairns, will be launching his new book, Caledonia, at a photographic evening to be held in Grantown on Spey. The Speyside town is near the photographer’s Cairngorm base in Glen Feshie. The evening, to be held in the Grant Arms Hotel on Thursday 1 September 7:30pm, will include a talk and slideshow, question and answers and a book signing, refreshments will be available. The free event has been organised by Grantown’s award-winning independent bookshop, the Bookmark.

Caledonia – Scotland’s Heart of Pine, by Peter Cairns and Niall Benvie, portrays a vision for Scotland’s wild forest. It is a book that will deepen the affinity with the forested landscape present in all of us and remind readers of the place of the wildwood in our culture.

Published to coincide with the UN International Year of Forests, Caledonia marries inspiring imagery by photographer Peter Cairns, with wide-ranging essays by acclaimed nature writer Niall Benvie, that make the case for the expansion of Scotland’s native woodland. The book will undoubtedly appeal to forest lovers but it also talks directly to land managers and policy makers who are key to the restoration and reconnection of native woodland.
