A straightforward walk along a beautiful wide sandy beach backed by machair which is a riot of colourful flowers in the summer months. The walk can be cut short by returning at any point, or extended by venturing onto the adjacent Tràigh Lingeigh, the next beach to the north.

Hornais cemetery (signed for Clachan Sands), off B893 road.
This beach walk is situated in the far north of North Uist, just off the road to the Berneray causeway. To reach the start, at Hornais cemetery where there is parking, take the turn off the B893 at Clachan Sands (Sannda) and follow the road past the houses to the first of two cemeteries.
From here walk along the track to the left heading towards the sea, passing the older burial ground to eventually reach a picnic area overlooking the fine beach of Tràigh Lingeigh. There is a good view of the mountains of Harris in the background. Keep following the faint track to the left here and then head down onto the sands of Tràigh Hornais.
Turn left along the white sands - in good weather the beach looks almost tropical, with a wide arc of bright sand backed by dunes. The crystal clear, but usually very cold water, is rarely as tempting, although seals, dolphins and the occasional otter can sometimes be spotted.
Head as far along the beach as you wish. There is a good view from the headland across to the island of Orasaigh and to the Aird a Mhorain peninsula beyond. From here retrace your steps back along the beach and then the track to the starting point.
