This out-and-back walk heads through lovely woodland with great views to reach Torosay Castle (a private residence) and then visits an attractive bay overlooking Duart Castle.

Start the by parking in the large car park in Craignure next to the Tourist information and almost opposite the ferry jetty. Cross the road and then head south away from the ferry terminal; there is a path that runs parallel to the road by the sea. Pass the Craignure Inn, continuing up the road heading out of Craignure.
Keep an eye out for a track with a no admittance for vehicles sign next to a lovely lodge house on the left. Follow this track through an avenue of trees and then with fields on the left side keep straight ahead where another track branches right. On a clear day there are excellent views to the mainland peaks across the water below.
Keep follow the track which heads through mature woodland with glimpses of Duart Castle across the bay. Eventually the remains of the former narrow gauge railway station at Torosay can be seen below - the Mull Railway was once a popular attraction but is now closed. The track emerges just below the entrance to the castle; the castle itself is a private residence and is not open to the public.
Turn left down the hill, continuing on through the trees to reach a house and then a jetty with a lovely view across to Duart Castle. This can be a stunning spot to watch the water and relax on a fine day.
It used to be possible to make an alternative return walk through Hedgehog Wood, but this is blocked by locked gates. It is also possible to head back round the coastline, though it's rough and boggy; to do this, head up the steps and follow a path to an estate memorial. The path - somewhat overgrown - then runs through the trees right near the shore. Eventually you can take to the shore itself for a time, before another section of faint path leads you to the campsite at Craignure. This is all much rougher than the main route, so our description and map here assume you simply retrace your steps back to Craignure.
