Stuart, 39, is presently the Director of Conservation with the Scottish Wildlife Trust a post he has held since 2002. He said, “I am absolutely delighted to take up the post of Chief Executive at the John Muir Trust and am looking forward to working with staff, trustees and volunteers to secure a better future for our most spectacular and important wild land areas. I feel very privileged to be joining a membership organisation that has already done so much to honour the ethos of John Muir. Being immersed in the glory of the view from Schiehallion or the rugged expanse of Sandwood Bay, I know inspiration is never going to be far away”.
Chairman Elect of the Trust, John Hutchison, said, ”Stuart is well respected in the environmental sector and his skills will be a great asset. I look forward to him starting with us in March, bringing his experience and enthusiasm to lead our staff forward in our next phase of development.”
The present Chief Executive, Nigel Hawkins, stands down at the end of February after being the senior employee since the formation of the Trust in 1983. He will move to the part time position of Director of the John Muir Trust Anniversary Foundation.
