Many walkers regard Suilven as being the most dramatic mountain in Scotland. Now the mountain – owned by the Assynt community – is in the race to win £18,000 in Euro-wide online poll.
The Suilven path needs to be restored to conserve its geological heritage and ensure that people can continue to enjoy climbing this distinctive peak. Peat is exposed on the lower path while the final steep ascent is disintegrating rapidly into a deep gully. It is the only UK project shortlisted for the European outdoor conservation award. Berghaus have supported the community project as part of the online poll organised by European Outdoor Conservation Association (a not-for-profit environmental outdoor charity with over 120 national affiliates across the continent). The online poll is now open to the public and will continue until noon on Monday 19 October.
See the John Muir Trust appeal page for more information on the project, and please share to help to raise awareness amongst your friends and contacts.
